Lolita
So Japanese iTunes has the new album up for preorder.. And.. and.. wtf is with Lolita?! Sounds exactly like something off of Lap of Luxury!!  Straight from the late 80s! Confused This song will take many spins for it to sink in.
And with all the loves and hates and passions just like mine...

RE: Lolita
Thanks curiouser, there is a generous hook on iTunes USA. I don't disagree that the production and keyboards have some similarities, but let's be fair here, it's pretty avant garde compared to most of Lap of Luxury. Rick's left channel guitar shred adds a pleasant dissonance and it's pretty great to hear a 12 string bass part. Your 80's comparison isn't out of left field, has anyone noticed stylistic similarities between Long Time Comin' and I'm the Man from Rock n' Rule/SACT?

Don't mind it actually.  The weakest part is actually the chorus ("You Got It... etc..."), which is the same issue with Long Time Coming for mine.  I like the verse & bridge a lot, and the section from 2 min into the solo is particularly good. Really don't hear the Lap Of Luxury comparison at all... if anything I could hear it sitting on Special One.

Absolutely! Took me a minute to work it out, but that was the comparison I drew too - that and the Kinks' "All Day and All of the Night" of course!

I quite like "Lolita", now available to download on Pledge. It's different.

I agree that the verse and bridge are really strong and Rick's guitar/Tom's bass is very cool. I'm fine with this song and actually like it more than Long Time Coming as its unique. (or maybe it just takes me back a bit to the 80's but in a good way!)

I like the song quite a bit, including the chorus (except the ooo ooo ooo part, which I generally dislike when they drop them in their songs). the 12-string playing the chorus notes in the bridge sounds awesome, and that goofy Bonanza theme sounding ending is perfect. I hear more of a "Heart of Glass" (a song I've always loved) thing in the intro and refrains than anything from LOL. I would only redo the drum sound and raise the vocal levels a bit, but the overall sonic effect is like filling up my car with alka seltzer (in a good way).

I liked it better after listening to the song several times over. I agree, not a fan of 'oooh oooh' stuff in the song or when they generally add it to one of their songs.

^^^^What he said. I'll even go so far as to say it sounds like a Michael Jackson song sung by Robin with a little more guitar in the mix. American Beatles, not so much. Lol.

I love the song so much that I experience spontaneous orgasms every time I hear it.

I just came thinking about it.

It's a good song, catchy and fun... Not their best song ever, definitely not their worst, either.

Agree.  Pleasantly surprised to see the track in Spotify and I enjoyed it.  Not even close to their worst 80s song.  I am amazed at how Robin's voice  can still sound so young.
